Do I have to iron my quilt top?
Please be sure that your quilt top is ironed flat. Seam allowances pushing up from the
back make smooth quilting difficult.
How big does my backing need to be?
Your backing needs to be at least 4″ bigger than your top on ALL sides. This is necessary to be able to attach your quilt to the longarm frame.
If backing is not big enough I will need to add a muslin strip to the edge at $15 per seam. If you piece your back, a horizontal seam works best on a longarm frame.
Do I need to stay-stitch the edges?
If you have many small pieces along the edges of your quilt, it is best to stay-stitch the top within 1/4″ of the edge. This will help protect your top throughout the quilting process.
Should I bring my own batting?
You may bring your own batting if you desire, but I reserve the right to inspect it for
durability.
Longarm machines are very heavy duty, so batting needs to be high quality or else little pieces of fiber will punch through and create an undesirable “bearding” effect.
I can provide proper batting (poly or cotton) at an additional cost.
What if I’m not sure about something?
Please feel free to ask me any questions about things you are unsure of. I’d love the opportunity to see and hear all about your treasured quilt top!
